TRACK HISTORY

Dick Crook started racing for Bill Wilkie from Coleman in the late 1960’s. Then racing for Ed Johnson in Clare, from there he owned his own car into the 1980’s.

His dream was to own a race track. He knew that Mount Pleasant Speedway hadn’t run for a few years, so he reached out to owner Tony Heintz. The property was leased out, but payments were not being paid, so it was tied up in court, Dick kept asking. Finally, the call came that it was free to sell!

In 1987, Dick and Betty Crook bought the track. After a very hard year, with the help of many friends and family, the track was ready to open on Friday, May 28th, 1988.

Dick and Betty along with their son Mario promoted for 17 years when Dick passed away with cancer. What now? Betty and Mario decided to continue a few more years, living Dick’s dream.

Here it is 2024 and we are still living his dream. It is only possible because of drivers, fans, sponsors, and the best employees!
